OUR Mission

To equip and empower young adults to be disciples of Christ in every season of life.

Reach Young Adults is a gathering for young people 18 years and above. It doesn’t matter where you are in your journey with Jesus – you have a place here.

Our goal is to foster a safe place for open and honest conversations; where young people are both challenged and encouraged to take up their mantle of being Christ followers in a world that may deem it counterculture to do so, and be discipled through the Word of God.

The ancient Greek and Roman cultures were ones in which fornication was a very common practice. In those pagan society, much of the worship of their gods involved fornication as they sought to become one with their gods.

While in Thessalonica, Paul writes a letter to the people, exhorting them again to live a pure life, a sanctified life, a life that is set apart unto God and to keep themselves from the common practice of fornication.

Through 1 Thess 4, Paul provides practical tips on abstaining from sexual immorality. He adds weight to it by saying it is the will & commandment of God.

The broad nature of the word ‘porneia’ shows that all sexual activity outside of the marriage covenant is sin.

v6 “no one should take advantage of or defraud his brother”. Repeatedly in Leviticus 18 — a chapter where God instructed Israel on the matter of sexual morality — the idea is given that one may not uncover the nakedness of another not their spouse. The idea is that the nakedness of an individual belongs to his or her spouse and no one else, and it is a violation of God’s law to give that kind of access to anyone else, or for anyone else to take it.

Bottom line: we live in a society where fornication is common, sexual images are easily accessible, there are diverse sexual desires, people have different expectations for the act etc.

We, however, have been given the Holy Spirit, who empowers the willing, trusting Christian to overcome sexual sin. By His Spirit, God has given us the armour for victory.

The Bible is very explicit on God’s stand against sexual immorality and that ‘he is the avenger of all such’ (v6).

Sexual abuse affects 1 in 4 girls, 1 in 12 boys. This impacts your psychological health and view of sex. Be honest with yourself. Be on top of it before you get into a relationship. Bring yourself into the light of Jesus.

Watch out that Satan doesn’t tempt you because of your lack of self control. The Holy Spirit doesn’t take away your sex drive but helps you manage it in healthy ways.

On Wednesday, June 19th, our beloved senior pastor and friend, Ps. Graeme Fitzgerald, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ.

He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. We are beyond thankful for his life, ministry and way he brought immense joy to our beautiful community.

To the Fitzgerald family, we are deeply saddened by your loss and continue to pray for the Holy Spirit’s comfort over you during this time.

THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD RECAP ⬇️

Col 1:16 reads “all things have been created through him and for him.”
Paul describes God as the creator, caretaker and beneficiary of his creation. He created the heavens and the earth and everything within for his glory.

It’s a mystery how God operates. At some level, we do not need to know. Evidence shows he’s just, wise and good.

How does God exercise his sovereignty? By not contradicting his nature.
So what is Gods nature and the bounds he exercises his sovereignty?

1. In his Infinite Wisdom
His Sovereignty is not misused. Every decision is well thought out and intentional. He is not a tyrant.

2. Through his Perfect Justice
God is righteous and fair by nature. He can’t wrong anyone. He also holds us accountable.

3. By his Absolute Goodness
No act or decision compromises the goodness of his character. He is a loving god and created us in his image, to experience his love.

This is illustrated through Jesus’ life and crucifixion.
- Infinite Wisdom: The price of sin needs to be paid. The plan for Jesus’ sacrifice was meticulously ordained to address this.
- Perfect Justice: Jesus came down and bore the punishment of our sin.
- Absolute Goodness: The cruxifixction was an act of profound love so we may experience freedom and no longer be dead to our sin

So God can do whatever he wants WITHIN his nature.

Difficult questions that may arise:
- If God is sovereign, why does evil still occur?
- What role do our choices play in the trajectory in our lives and overall in Gods sovereign plan?
- Is God reactive or proactive?
- Can prayer influence the plan of God?

Gods sovereignty and mans free will are like parallel lines, they run independently. Gods sovereignty can’t force a man to choose, and our free will can’t change the sovereignty of God.

God sets the options. We have the choice to obey or disobey. Our will although free is constrained within the boundaries that God set to be exercised within.

People perpetuate evil but God works it out for good. (Story of Joseph)

God designed us to love him. Love in order to be real, needs to be free. If it’s not freely given, it’s not love.

Hey RYA! Last week we had a last minute change. Sanju was unwell so Ps Fredy graciously stepped in and shared about the “Infilling of the Holy Spirit”.

The author, Smith Wigglesworth, said “The power of the Holy Spirit is most lovely, divine in all its construction. It is a great refiner. When you are filled with the Spirit you will know the voice of God.”

So what does it mean to be filled of the Holy Spirit?

+ It means constant filling, not a one off event. Daily discipline to spend time with God so we may be sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
Matt 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
Don’t be satisfied with the first filling.

+ Filling produces christ-likeness, it produces fruits of the Holy Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control - Gal 5:22).

+ Continual dedication: Don’t go into the mould of this world. This world wants you to compromise your standard of holiness, which ultimately leads to death. Romans 8:13 “For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live”. Practice the scriptures continuously in speech and behaviour.

+ Victory over sin: Galatians 5:16 “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”. The Holy Spirit acts as our reminder, bringing forward Bible verses etched in our memory to help defeat sin.

The Holy Spirit is described in the Bible like living water, through which we have spiritual sustenance and salvation.
Pray everyday RYA to walk with the spirit and to thirst for God more.

Hey RYA! A big thank you to Jesse for coming last week and speaking on the Trinity. We appreciate you for approaching this topic with humility and courage.

The Hebrew translation of Duet 6:4 reads “šāmaʿ yiśrā’ēl Yᵊhōvâ is ĕlōhîm Yᵊhōvâ is eḥāḏ”
The Hebrew word for God in the plural, “Elohim”, is used here. The Hebrew word for “one” is “echad” which is a compound unity rather than the word “yacheed” which is an absolute one. This verse points to God being one but in plural.

A Trinitarian Christian believes in God, complete in 3 persons: Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

1. History
Two centuries after the New Testament, the Early Church wrestled with the idea of God and Jesus.
Historical artefacts such as the ‘Apostles Creed’ and the ‘Nicene Creed’ show the Early Church’s challenges and development in understanding the Trinity & fully acknowledging all 3 persons of the Trinity.

2. Heresy in the Early Church (people trying to make sense of the Trinity)
+ Modalism: God is one person but reveals himself in different ways. i.e ‘Water, Ice and Gas Analogy’. All the same but in different forms. This is incorrect because it assumes God can only be one form at a time, but he is three in one.

+ Adoptionism: Idea that Jesus was born naturally and was given God status through his good works. This contradicts the belief that Jesus is divine and Holy just as God is.

All persons of the trinity are equal - no one is less God than the other.

3. Scriptures
+ Father, Spirit & Son involved in Creation
John 1:1-3 & Genesis 1:1-3 “In the Beginning, GOD created the heavens and earth…. the SPIRIT of God was hovering over the waters… God SAID let there be light”. This exemplifies God complete in three forms (at the SAME time).

+ Father, Spirit & Son involved in Baptism
Mark 1:10&11 - Jesus baptised by John. As Jesus rose from the water, he saw heaven tore open and the spirit descended on him like a dove. A voice spoke and said ‘You are my son, whom I love”.
God in three persons (at the SAME time).

+ Father, Spirit & Son involved in carrying out the will of God in John 12:27-30.
